What You'll Learn

Wintec’s Bachelor of Design is for those who want to work in Illustration, Graphic Design, Web & Interactive Design, Motion Animation and Fashion Design, UX and Service Design.

In this increasingly complex world, designers and problem solvers are in hot demand. This degree is for the person with a flair for creative problem solving and helping make our experience of the world a whole lot better.

The Bachelor of Design is also co-delivered with other degrees from the creative suite of programmes. You’ll gain depth within your own discipline as well as breadth across other creative disciplines.

The Bachelor of Design has endorsements in Visual Communication and Fashion Design.

Visual Communication

As our digital world continues to rapidly evolve, designers need to be able to implement their skills across multiple platforms. You will gain practical, creative and critical skills to find effective design solutions while learning the art of keeping pace with technical requirements for print, digital and experience based contexts.

Fashion Design

The Fashion endorsement of the Bachelor of Design will prepare you for a career in the global fashion industry with a focus on design and the commercial business of fashion. Classes provide a learning environment that allows you to develop your individual ideas and gain strong technical skills in construction and pattern making.

Career/Further Opportunities

Graduates will be able gain employment across a range of design, media and creative related roles.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Design are positioned to pathway into postgraduate programmes at Wintec such as the Bachelor of Media Arts with Honours.

Graduates of this programme are also capable of transferring and applying their skills across a number of non-design disciplines.

Entry criteria

Candidates are required to have:

a) NCEA Level 3 comprised of 60 credits at NCEA Level 3 or above and 20 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above, including:

• 14 credits each at NCEA Level 3 in three approved subjects, including a Language Rich; and
• Literacy (10 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above made up of 5 credits each in reading and writing); and
• Numeracy (10 credits at NCEA Level 1 or above); or

A relevant level 4 qualification; or Equivalent.

b) In exceptional cases, candidates with 60 credits at NCEA Level 2 across four subjects including 12 credits in a Language Rich subject, or equivalent, will be considered.

English Language Requirements

• International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.0 with no individual band score lower than 5.5 or equivalent
• TOEFL IBT 60,
• TOEFL PBT score of 550
• Pearson score of 50
