Summary

A double degree‌ allows you to study for two degrees at the same time. You will graduate with two different bachelor degrees, giving you career flexibility and different opportunities. For those who have interests in diverse areas, a double degree can broaden your skill set, provide complementary and enhanced knowledge and give you the flexibility to work in a number of different disciplines and industries when you graduate.

Qualification structure and duration

Double degrees usually take a couple of years longer than a normal, three to four year bachelor's degrees. For example, a double degree may take five to six years, while it would take seven or eight years to complete two individual degrees studied separately.

You may enrol in two degrees at the same time and cross-credit up to a maximum of 120 points. Certain combinations of degrees do allow additional cross-credits or exemptions.

Bachelor of Engineering with Honours

Engineers are designing the future. By developing new, innovative technology and providing solutions to meet the needs of our modern world, they are improving the quality of our lives. From buildings and bridges, apps and smart devices, pharmaceuticals and renewable energy, engineering feats are everywhere.

UC offers nine disciplines within the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours: Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Forest Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Natural Resources Engineering, Software Engineering.

Engineering students have the opportunity to meet with some of New Zealand's largest engineering companies through careers fairs, networking evenings, and engineering expos. All UC engineering degrees are accredited by IPENZ and all students qualify for student membership to IPENZ. Our graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities, from private companies and consultancies through to government agencies. Many UC engineers progress into management.

Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science is very flexible with 16 major subjects on offer and around 32 subject choices available in total. Major subjects includes: Astronomy, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Environmental Science, Finance, Financial Engineering, Geography, Geology, Linguistics, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Statistics, You should allow for more than one potential major subject. Check the 100-level requirements for your potential majors as some majors require more than two 100-level courses or enrolment in a complementary subject such as Mathematics. An endorsement can be added to your major in recognition of the fact that your studies in that subject have had a particular focus. Subjects are: Biosecurity, Biotechnology, Ecology, and Environmental Science.

Entry criteria

Admission to UC with University Entrance, or equivalent, is required to enrol for a Bachelor's degree. Applicants must have completed New Zealand University Entrance through NCEA; or Cambridge International Examinations (CIE); or International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) or any other equivalent overseas qualification.

Other English language requirements: TOEFL PBT with a minimum score of 550 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5; CCEL EAP Level 2 with a minimum C+ grade; CAE or CPE minimum score of 169 with at least 162 in reading, writing, listening and speaking; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE with an overall score of 57 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50.
