WHAT IS IT LIKE?
Massey’s Master of Veterinary Medicine programme offers practicing veterinarians a flexible, modular system of study via distance. You may choose from a wide range of small animal, large animal, equine, epidemiology and veterinary business courses.

Massey University’s veterinary programme is internationally-recognised - we were one of the first in the Southern Hemisphere to earn American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation.
You will also be joining one of the few distance education programmes for veterinarians that offers the option of completing a qualification.
In-depth
Your courses will advance your knowledge and skills to an in-depth level beyond that obtained in your primary veterinary degree. Courses can be completed for continuing education or put towards a Master of Veterinary Medicine or other qualification.

Structure
You can follow a flexible course of study, which consists of courses totalling at least 120 credits selected from the Schedules for the Master of Veterinary Medicine and must include at least 45 credits from Schedule C.
You may complete a subject by passing at least 90 credits in a subject including a research or professional practice course from Schedule C. You must undertake research projects or practica that align with the focus of the subject. Approved subjects are: Companion Animal, Companion Animal Surgery, Production Animal, Equine, and Veterinary Business Administration.
Time limits for completion for eligibility for Distinction or Merit
Your 120 credit master's degree will carry the award of Distinction, if completed at a superior standard (equivalent to First Class Honours), or Merit (equivalent to Second Class Honours, Division One) and completed within one year of first enrolling in full-time study.
Maximum time to completion
All requirements must be completed within four years of first enrolling in the Master of Veterinary Medicine.
Entry criteria
Admission to the Master of Veterinary Medicine requires you to have a completed a veterinary degree. If you have completed a Massey University Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), or have a veterinary qualification that can be registered by the New Zealand Veterinary Council or is considered by the Academic Board to be equivalent to the Massey University BVSc, you can enrol into the Master of Veterinary Medicine.
In order to enrol directly into the Master of Veterinary Medicine programme you must have obtained a B grade average in your veterinary degree. If you are not eligible to enrol directly into the Master of Veterinary Medicine but have the appropriate background, and are approved for entry into an alternative qualification, you may complete Master of Veterinary Medicine courses towards a Certificate of Proficiency, Postgraduate Certificate of Science (PGCertSc) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Science (PGDipVSc) and then may switch your enrolment to the Master of Veterinary Medicine programme if you obtain minimum B grades in at least two Master of Veterinary Medicine courses.
