Summary

This practical, environmental science qualification is earned amidst the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand's Bay of Plenty.

We'll take you on field trips to beautiful and remote parts of the country like Fiordland, Coromandel and the Central Plateau, where you'll examine the challenges facing New Zealand's clean, green image, and look at what needs to be done to protect our world-famous environment.

One year won't be enough! Once you've graduated you can continue on to the Level 6 Diploma starting in 2019 where you'll gain more advanced skills and knowledge with a focus on research design, environmental and ecological reporting. You’ll also choose elective papers in biosecurity or aquaculture.

By the time you graduate you’ll have gained a variety of practical and risk management skills, and if you want to gain a degree, these diplomas are your ticket into the third year of the Bachelor of Science with the University of Waikato and/or the Bachelor of Applied Science and Sustainability here at Toi Ohomai. You may even decide to continue on further to complete your Masters and PhD.

Upon successful completion of the programme you will receive:

Entry criteria

A minimum of 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 or equivalent (suggested subjects are English, Mathematics and Biology/Sciences) or equivalent overseas qualification.

English Language requirements:

Level 5 certificate or diploma

IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0; TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) score of 46 or higher (with a writing score of 20); TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5.0 TWE); FCE, FCE for schools, with a score of 162, no less than 154 in each skill; NZCEL of Level 4 with the Academic endorsement; PToE (Academic) score of 42.
